What would happen if you died tomorrow?

I think that with the events that have transpired this past week we have all thought about this question in one way or another. Initially, when I first learned that Michael Jackson had passed away I was in shock like the rest of the world. A series of questions flooded my mind, "Is it true? How could that be possible? What happened? What will become of this iconic entertainer posthumously?"

I cannot judge Michael Jackson or anyone else for that matter, but I am convinced that one day he will come face to face with his creator and give an account for all of his actions, for all that he may have done and even for those things he may have been called to do and never did.

In this lifetime I will never know what truly happened to Michael Jackson after he died. I may never know if he entered the Golden Gates of heaven. One thing I do know. I know that all of Michael Jackson's talent here on earth may have been meaningless. Will he be able to carry his accolades and hall of fame records into heaven with him? What will God say when he sees Michael Jackson's accomplishments here on earth? Do you think he will be impressed? I do not believe so. But I do know that one of the known wisest men in the bible, King Solomon, proclaims in the book of Ecclesiastes, "Everything is meaningless!"

What would have been of Michael Jackson had he used his gifts for the glory of the Lord instead? Perhaps, had he passed away June 25th, 2009 only a handful of people may have found out and probably only a few close friends and family would have paid tribute to him. However there is no doubt in my mind that he would have left behind a legacy rather than a sold out tour and disappointed fans.

I don't know about you, but the death of Michael Jackson has been eye opening for me. I want to be able to (when my time is up here on Earth) leave without regrets. I want to know that beyond a shadow of a doubt, everything I did was for and with the Lord. I don't know how much time I have here on this Earth but I know that life is fleeting. May we be assured today that our life was not void of purpose.

Similar thoughts went through my head last night sitting in a movie theatre watching "My Sister's Keeper". Great tear jerker of a movie but ends with this question of Maybe there is life after death....an overall feeling of "we all get to heaven" somehow, someway.

My heart was wondering how many people in those seats bought into the casual thought "maybe heaven is a reality" and "I'll get there somehow hopefully"

I am so thankful someone told me about the truth and the reality of God's love for me and how that opens up a way for me to go to heaven when I die...thanking him this morning that I can take death seriously and not have to fear it.

I understand your entry and the power MJ held over this population (alot like Elvis Presley did). But to say that his talents may have been meaningless... I differ on that.

Too many people (beleivers or not) were inspired by him, inspired to help their fellow mankind, inspired to do or say something they might not have done on their own. MJ was profound and empowering.

You are right, no one leaves this earth with their "things" accumulated while here. But we do get to leave an impact... hoping it could be a positive life changing experience for someone.

I too hope MJ was able to meet our Saviour and live eternally with him.

The Apostle Paul said this to the Romans: "I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out." (Romans 7:18). I am of the belief that anything that we do outside of the Spirit of God is like "filthy rags" as the Prophet Isaiah puts it. Therefore, M.J. may have inspired many, he may have influenced many, he may have enlightened many, but he certainly did not do it for the Glory of God.

The Apostle Paul also said "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31), which means that it is pointless for us to even attend to our most basic needs unless we will do it for the Glory of God. So did M.J. do meaningful things throughout his life spam, from a human perspective yes, however in the eyes of God, unfortunately what he did was not accepted as a Divine offering.

However I am not affirming that his works condemned himself, all I am saying is that they did not justify him. My utter desire is to get to heaven and find Michael there singing and dancing in the presence of the Lord for his glory! I truly hope that the King of Pop once in his life met the King of Kings!
